When the river is low (not after rains), this course is fun and can be challenging. We played just after rain (Halloween Day) and the middle of the course (Santa Ana River) was wet and muddy. Best practice putting green in the world.

I played on Wednesday afternoon, and a high school girl's team were in front of me for the front nine. The young ladies did OK, but the pace was slow until the back nine, where I was able to play alone.

Layout over the Santa Ana river is sometimes confusing. Several blind shots from riverbed.

River View is a challenging layout, with routing up and down the Santa Ana River bed. This presents severe elevation changes, both on tee shots and approach shots to the greens. It's a good test of all your shots.

As UK tourists looking for a relaxed golfing day my wife and I played this course - The course was in good condition for the time of year and was certainly good value. The fear factor of an unknown course layout made club selection a little tricky - a number of approaches fell short of the numerous raised greens. We will certainly play again on next visit to California. Clubhouse and catering very basic (you get what you pay for) but the staff were very friendly and helpful.

PLAYERS CAN GET FRUSTRATED HITTING TO MANY ELEVATED GREENS BUT ITS A GREAT CHALLENGE. GREENS ARE SOME OF THE BEST IN THE AREA. NOT A LEVEL PUTT ON ANY OF THEM. THEY ROLL TRUE AND ARE RESONABLE FAST.
